# Quickstart

> Make your first authenticated requests to the Bibleit API.

Use a finite personal API token from your account's Credentials settings. For a
client acting on another person's behalf, use registered OAuth with S256 PKCE
and consent instead; see [authentication](/get-started/authentication).

Replace `<token>` in each header with your personal API token.

```sh
curl \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer <token>" \
  https://api.bibleit.app/v1/me
```

This returns your identity and `personal_account_id`. Listing translations
requires `translation.list`. You do not need to copy an account ID to try
the translation catalogue:

```sh
curl \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer <token>" \
  https://api.bibleit.app/v1/translations
```

The catalogue lists available translation editions and their metadata. It does
not grant access to scripture or enable translations in your library.

## Next steps

To [read your library](/api-reference/personal-accounts/list-personal-translations),
[read scripture](/api-reference/personal-accounts/read-personal-chapter) or
[list your Lives](/api-reference/personal-accounts/list-personal-lives), use the
`personal_account_id` returned by `/me` in the endpoint's account path. Those
resources require an account ID; the first requests above do not. Scripture reads
also require a translation installed and enabled in your account and the
`translation.read` scope.

Read [retries and concurrency](/integration-guides/retries-and-concurrency) before
writing resources and [Live events](/integration-guides/live-events) for state
updates. Shared workspace automation has a separate
