# Remove a member

DELETE https://api.bibleit.app/v1/organizations/{organization_id}/members/{member_id}

**Required scopes:** `membership.delete`.

Requires the current membership ETag. Owners cannot be removed (409); service principals cannot remove administrators (403). Absent memberships return 204 after scope and precondition syntax checks. Revokes human organization access through the existing membership boundary; independently owned service tokens remain valid.

## Authentication

- `Authorization` header (bearer token, required) — Organization-owned service token. Issue the initial token in organization credential settings. Scopes are documented per operation via x-required-scopes; they are not OAuth scopes.

### Path parameters

- `organization_id` (string, required) — Immutable organization UUID bound to the service token.
- `member_id` (string, required) — Immutable user UUID of an active organization membership. Protocol principals and handles are not accepted.

### Headers

- `If-Match` (string, required) — Strong validator for this membership representation and row revision. Membership writes require the latest value unchanged. Missing:428; stale:412; malformed, weak, wildcard or list:422.
